Me

It was 2006 when I first discovered an open source project called Cacti.

To be honest, at the very beginning I did not understand why things should be that complex when the task was to only create some nice rrdtool graphs. So I dropped it.

But then I again came across it, still not understanding too much of it. So I asked at the forum. But the lack of a comprehensive documentation was still a burden. So I started to write down what I was able to understand. So the first HowTo was born. A second followed soon …

The forum soon had too many restrictions for that kind of documentation, so we switched to Drupal. And now it’s a Cacti Wiki. And still, forum work is one of my most time consuming tasks in the Cacti world. Find me there as gandalf.

For some months, I refrained from doing any coding. But as soon as the plugin architecture was provided by Jimmy Connor, I started extending Cacti. This gave birth to the plugins Aggregate and RRDCleaner.

Starting mid-2007 I am now counting amongst the Cacti Development Team. I focus on the graphing interface for RRDTool.

  1. Hallo,

    es wäre schön, wenn in cacti in „resource/snmp_queries/interface.xml“ noch folgendes aufnehmen könnte:

    Multicast Packets In
    walk
    value
    output
    .1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.2

    Multicast Packets Out
    walk
    value
    output
    .1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.4

    Broadcast Packets In
    walk
    value
    output
    .1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.3

    Broadcast Packets Out
    walk
    value
    output
    .1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.5

    Hintergrund: neuere Cisco Catalysts unterstützen nicht mehr die „deprecated“ OIDs

    IF-MIB::ifInNUcastPkts
    IF-MIB::ifOutNUcastPkts

    stattdessen sind jetzt

    IF-MIB::ifInMulticastPkts
    IF-MIB::ifOutMulticastPkts
    IF-MIB::ifInBroadcastPkts
    IF-MIB::ifOutBroadcastPkts

    abzufragen.

    Der Rest geht dann ja wieder mit cacti selber.

    Gruss, Jens Hektor

    • Das ist natürlich möglich, es in der standard Auslieferung so vorzusehen. Jeder kann das aber auch selbst eintragen unter ressources/snmp_queries/interfaces.xml

      Danke für den Tipp
